I agree with some of the other reviewers that the sound is not loud enough...particularly for a toy that is meant to be used in a group environment. I had to start each round with quieting down the excited kids, which works against the fun factor. I also found that the explosion was not definitive enough. It goes on for several blasts and it was often unclear who should be declared out or when it even went off.
Despite those issues, the kids still loved playing it and asked to play with it again at the end of the party, when all the activities were done.
This product is a little on the heavy side and very hard plastic, when the kids pass it around sometimes they get excited because it's going to boom and toss it fast and it hurts because it's so hard. Also, when it explodes, it booms 3 or 4 times so nobody knows whose really "out". It's a cute concept, just needs some tweaking I think.
Kids LOVE this toy. They play with it for hours.
I had a Pirate Party for my son's 6th birthday. We got it to entertain the kids until everyone got there, in between other activities, and the kids loved it so much they played with it more than most of the other games I had. We had kids ranging from 5-13 and they all had fun playing it. The ones who had played hot potatoe before loved the fact that it was a pirate bomb, and the kids who had never played before picked it up right away. Before we even used it my 1 year old chucked it off the table on to the linoleum floor and it worked perfectly afterwards, so it's more durable than it looks. The kids played with it alot at the party and i never had to change the batteries. Loved it, and it served as another gift for him since he likes to play with it so much. I was a little dissapointed when I first got it, I thought it would be bigger from the picture, but it turned out to be the perfect size for little hands. I highly recomend this toy.

The bomb is well designed and sturdy - survived many many drops as we used it to play "hot potato" at a birthday party. The bomb was tossed, caught, dropped, rolled and kept on exploding, without a scratch on the bomb or the children.
The one drawback is there is only one bomb sequence from turning it on to the explosion and once one person is out you have to turn off the bomb to turn it back on to start the same sequence to explosion over again. It was still a fun game and I highly recommend this toy for a pirate themed party game.
VERY CREATIVE ITEM BUT NEEDS TO BE ALOT MORE DURABLE LIKE PLAYSKOOL OR LITTLE TIKES PRODUCT MATERIAL BECAUSE LITTLE KIDS DROP THINGS AND IT NEEDS TO BE KIDS RESISTANT. IT ALSO NEEDS TO BE LOUDER CAUSE WHEN YOU GET A BUNCH OF LITTLE KIDS TOGETHER THEY ARE VERY LOUD AND IT WAS HARD TO HEAR THE KABOOM!! OVERALL IT WAS FUN TO PLAY ESPECIALLY A PIRATE THEME PARTY!! THANKS!!!
Was also smaller then I expected but this toy is so much fun. And it is super cute. Would go great just as decoration in a pirate room:)
We bought it for our pirate themed birthday party. I liked the effects when we played with it here at home. But the sound effects were a little lame and entirely too quiet once the party started. When you have even a few kids making noise (which you have to expect) you can't hear the sounds anymore.Disappointing [$]
We had fun with this product at my son's pirate party. There was lots of laughter. The only con is that the sound of the bomb blowing up could be louder. We had a tough time hearing it a times.
Good fun slightly hard to hear exactly when bomb explodes sound quality could be better
great toy for kids of all ages - including adults

This toy was used for my son's Pirate themed Birthday party. Kids of all ages loved it, but it was a little hard to hear with a group of ten or more kids. Usually I prefer quiet toys, but this was almost too quiet.
A volume control would be helpful, so it could be louder for group play and quieter for individual play.
I like the fact that it can be used for group play or for imaginative individual play. My son loves setting it among his toy pirates and ships and pretending.
bought to play hot potato with afterschool group, goes off before it makes it around the circle, but pretty darn cute...kids liked it
