These were a birthday present for my son. He and his brother played with them all day. They seem to have pretty good reception. I do not believe they are 'voice activated' so much as they are just 'on' all the time, because the static when you're not talking is constant in your ear, unlike regular walkie talkies where the noise stops when you release the button. The ear pieces were also very stiff and hard for my kids to get on the first few times, but they quickly figured out how to make it easier. All in all, a very good product. They have already gotten enough play time to run down the first set of batteries, which is impressive for my kids, who seem to play with things for a few hours and then toss it aside. Highly recommended.

My husband and I use this product while we are biking to communicate to each other. I like it because you don't have an atenna on the top like our old ones did
Only prob is you only can put it in your left ear but that is a small inconvience
