No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The "Try Me" button didn't work, so figuring the batteries were dead, I bought 6 new batteries (Cdn. $31 later). Come Christmas morning, batteries were dead in both pens. So I changed the batteries, and the light didn't work in one pen. Also, the ink was dry in both pens. So this toy was a complete and ultimately expensive waste.

Cool toy. The spy pens are great. My kids were so excited when we got them for a friend's birthday that we had to get our own. Spying is great imaginative play that both my 5 1/2 year old can play and his 3 year old brother as well. I can write secret love messages to the kids or draw the secret letter or number of the day. Then the kids use the pens to see what was written.

cool idea. gets kids real excited to play together, then the light goes kaput after only a few hours of play. how disappointing to the kids! ok - get a new battery!!? no way! it takes a specialty battery. I paid[$] for two pens that died within two days - not good.
