I find it amazing that it is possible for a TOY to manage to both send and receive, and not just go-turn commands. As a HAM, I am aware how much is involved in even B&W video. Sound cuts off while in motion, I suspect this is because of a lack of bandwidth, and anyway, all you would hear is the motor. If you have to give up a channel, video would be the WORST choice, as you wouldn't be able to drive by video sight alone. (Half the fun) We found this toy works best with Lithium AA batteries, as it is rather a heavy drain on ordinary batteries. Cost is high, but so worth it. It is dangerous to play with around dogs...Or with dogs around, even if you do not know they are nearby... Try it at your own risk! Some dogs react badly to it. Now, if only I could also project MY voice, (as driver) to whomever I find... I'd give it all 5 stars. As for ruggedness of toy, we do not yet know. Include a laser pointer, or just strap one on of your own, and really drive the family cat insane. (Our next plan for a Saturday afternoon) I'd love to see one that could climb stairs, though. Or move faster when needed.

At first, I had serious doubts about the ATV spy video car...then I got one for my son's christmas gift. Want to talk about fun? This dad did not want to stop playing with it...not to mention my friends, who would bring their children over to play. And my son loves it, too...
But that is where the fun ends and the reality of how companies relate to their customers begins...Horror story? A nightmare in customer service? HARDLY!!! Every other company in the U.S. should look to Wild Planet for direction and "human" customer relations policies...
I cannot remember the name of the Wild Planet representative with whom I talked, but I am sure the company can pull up the file and reward/praise her as she deserves. Very friendly, understanding and helpful are descriptive words that only gloss over the surface of her demeanor. And as great as she was in dealing with me, she was only following company policy...
I informed the representative that in our overzealous play with my son, I had broken (crushed is a better word) the eye-piece glasses for the video spy car. I asked if I could buy a replacement, and was told, "No, but we would be happy to replace it for you at no cost.
"WHAT????????????
"But "I" Broke it...it isn't the company at fault...it didn't fall apart or malfunction...I was clumsy and squished it," was my reply.
Whereby our friendly representative informed me that it didn't matter...they don't SELL replacements...they more than happy to help customers out.
I didn't send a dime, I didn't send postage...in about 5 days, there was a new video receiver eye-piece in the mailbox. My son would have done back-flips if he knew how, and I was left with having to do something I have never done before...
write a GOOD review of a company.
No problem, though, and I am happy to say that I will be telling everyone about the company, the product and our nameless representative. Also, it is a good thing my son enjoys the spy toys so much, because I would rather get quality toys from a GREAT company (though I will be seeing what else Wild Planet has to offer than just spy toys), than shovel money into cheap toys that break and are backed (not backed) by giant companies who could care less about the customer after the sale is made.
KUDOS to Wild Planet...Thank You from this single dad, and a present and FUTURE customer.

My son and even his teenage sister (as well as his friends and cousins) had a blast with this. The ONLY problems with the thing is that A) it kills batteries MUCH too quickly, so you'd better have rechargeables, and B) the tracks come off relatively often, though they are easy to put back on.

One of a kind toy - my 8 years old nephew was thrilled to get one of these. The video is not great (and I can't tell whether the monitor or the camera are to blame for this), but hey, for this price, it is well worth it. Boys will love it; parents should be careful though, the kid may place this in your bedroom and there goes your privacy :-) You should also be aware that this toy is actually an entry level spy bug, so someone can easily intercept the video/audio stream and monitor your home from the street.Overall, a great toy, [...]

Ground level video gives realistic feel
By Kate

Pros:

Cons:

Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:
Education Oriented, Parent Of Two Or More Children
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
This car, although expensive, was a big hit for Christmas this year with my 2nd grader. He can remotely navigate it around the house or under the xmas tree. The sound of the vehicle moving is loud enough that it couldn't really be a stealthy spy weapon (which is good if you don't really want your kid spying on you), but it has the unexpected benefit of being a realistic ground level toy that puts my son in the middle of the action like no other toy. Great for action figure guy interaction! It drives over rough terrain (even feet) without causing damage. The video flickers a bit and it does use a lot of batteries, but I think it will hold his interest for a while. Many other vehicles were coming out with sound monitors this year, but the video is what really sets this one apart. And even though it is a tank I like that it has no weapons so it is not used violently.

I was skeptical when my 6 year old asked for this toy due to the wireless video. It looked to good to be true in the commercials. I did not think it would work well and that it would be a waste of money. I WAS WRONG. This is a great gift for any boy who wants an RF toy. We have had hours of fun with this toy since he opened it. The RF range is fantastic, its durable, and the wireless video is very cool. My son can sit in one room and drive this thing all over the house. I wish they had this when I was a kid!!!!
