The pen works and is a lot of fun for kids. With younger kids (5 years) they draw big pictures with it and the light doesn't shine over a large-enough area for them to see more than a portion of their picture. This doesn't seem to be a big drawback to their enjoyment.

Purchased as part of the party pack for an 8th birthday. The pen works but you need to press hard to get a good print. My 4 year old had trouble but I think the kids at the party (8 yrs) enjoyed it.

My 8 year old daughter is really into the Harriet the Spy books, also secret codes and whatnot. I bought her this along with other spy gear and this is definitely her favorite. She uses it for her secret diary and her spynotebook. All the features work as described.

This product is super fun for the kids. I bought this item for both my nephew and niece ages 8 and 9 and they both absolutely having a great time with this item. This item is so good that the kids are really not bored with it as they continue wanting to write in secret that no one can know what they actually wrote down. This item really does do exactly what it says it can do.

My son got this two years ago. Loved it. Left the cover off and lost it for a few days. Could not fix even according to the directions because it was uncovered for a few days. That's the only con. I wish they sold refills. I have been looking for a replacement for two years. Glad I found one here.
